Episode 22: Creating Spaces for Diversity in the AEC Community with Alicia Washington
In episode 22 of the Build Better podcast, Anastasia welcomes Alicia Washington, director of marketing at HRP Associates, and president-elect of the Society for Marketing Professionals Connecticut chapter (SMPS CT).
Alicia talks about SMPS CT’s new Diversity and Inclusion Initiative and shares her own journey as a person of color in the AEC industry. She also shares how leaders can have those often difficult conversations about diversity and inclusion that promote real change within our industry.
Alicia is the Director of Marketing at HRP Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting firm headquartered in Farmington, CT with 11 locations nationwide.
Alicia has over 16 years of marketing experience in the A/E/C industry. Her experience includes marketing and business development support in the areas of architecture, engineering, site development, remediation, bridge construction, and construction inspection. Her responsibilities include oversight of corporate and client sector branding, development of industrial, state and federal proposals and qualifications packages, supervision of marketing communications functions, initiation of research and development opportunities, and management of the marketing department staff. Alicia is currently President-Elect for the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), a board member and membership chair of the Construction Institute, and on the founding committee for the Connecticut Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects. Alicia is a wife and mother of two children and resides in Bristol, Connecticut.
